Terminology Data Base for Mobility Between the Nordic Countries

The Terminology Data Base for Nordic Mobility was published in 2017. It was compiled in cooperation between the Nordic countries, and it contains concepts related to education, training, and labour market in Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish. Terms related to the Finnish society are provided both in Finnish and in Swedish.

The project to produce the terminology data base for nordic mobility was launched in 2015. The project was led by the language councils of Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In addition, the project was taken part by the nordic terminology centres DANTERMcentret/DANTERM Research, Department of Management, Society and Communication, Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Sanastokeskus TSK (Finland) and Terminologicentrum TNC (Sweden). Additionally, the Hello Norden information service took part in the terminology work. The work to produce the terminology data base was funded by the Nordplus Nordic Languages programme.

The terminology data base will make it easier for Nordic country citizens to move from one Nordic country to another to work or study. The data base brings the concepts used in each Nordic country together into one resource, which will make it easier for a user to find information on the meaning of a term in a chosen country and to check whether there is an equivalent term in some other country.
