Terminology project on social media

In April 2009 the Finnish Terminology Centre TSK launched a project, proposed by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA), on the terminology of the so called Web 2.0.

The project aims at defining around 60 concepts related to social media and the new interactive community-based uses of the Internet. Examples of the concepts to be dealt with are online community, content sharing service, tag cloud and blogosphere. The resulting vocabulary is targeted at both users and producers of social media services. The vocabulary will contain term recommendations and definitions in Finnish and equivalents of the terms in Swedish and English.

Among the organisations taking part in the project are DNA, Elisa and TeliaSonera (Finnish network operators), Eniro Finland (a search service company), Finnet Association (an umbrella organisation and a co-operation network for Finnish local phone companies) and Nokia.
